Duke archive video: When the beasts from Group C raced down under
The Duke classic video selection this week takes us to the 1988 FIA World Sportscar Championship finale
The Duke classic video selection this week is a small nod to Formula 1's 2026 season opener in Melbourne this upcoming weekend.
In 1988, the FIA World Sportscar Championship (predecessor to today's WEC) raced at the small but formidable Sandown Raceway in the Melbourne suburbs. It was a short sprint race for the sportscars of that era, the event being called the 360km of Sandown Park.
It was the 11th and final round on the 1988 season, with a certain Martin Brundle winning the drivers' championship for Jaguar in a year that also famously saw the XJR-9 take overall glory at Le Mans to give the manufacturer its first victory at the iconic endurance event since 1957.
